Elmina castle was erected by the Portuguese in 1482 as a trading post built on the gulf of Guinea. It is the oldest European building in existence south of the Sahara. The tour guides are extremely knowledgeable and go into depth about the slave trade that occurred in this castle.

W. E. B Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture is a memorial place, research facility and tourist attraction in the Cantonments area of Accra. It's named in dedication to W. E. B. Du Bois, an African American historian and Pan-Africanist who became a citizen of Ghana in the early 1960s. He lived here in his last few years at the invitation of President Kwame Nkrumah while compiling the Encyclopedia Africana.
