A historic funky old mining town about 15 miles from Santa Fe. Take scenic byway 14 to get there and consider stopping in the dusty western town of Cerrillos along the way. In Madrid there are numberous galleries, shops, eateries and The Mine Shaft Tavern which houses a museum and historic theatre on the premises as well as being a locals favorite place for drinks, a meal and live music.
