Sightseeing

The old town, with its narrow streets and noble buildings, the Venetian harbor, and the Fortezza Fortress are some of the landmarks not to be missed. The Archaeological Museum hosts exhibits from the ancient, Byzantine, and Venetian periods of the city. A few kilometers outside the city, one of the most famous monasteries in the area, "Arkadi," stands with interesting architecture and a history dating back to the Ottoman era. Heading towards South Crete, you will encounter the most beautiful and impressive gorges. On one side, the stunning Kourtaliotiko Gorge (where many adventurous souls dare to swim in its icy waters), and on the other side, the gorge of Kotsifou. I've only listed a few of the sights you can visit, because as you will discover yourself, I couldn't convey them all in writing. One thing is certain: you will experience tastes, sights, and smells that will be etched in your memory forever. Because as they say, it's not just a place you go to, but one you return from.
