The shrine sits at the base of a mountain also named Inari which is 233 meters above sea level, and includes trails up the mountain to many smaller shrines which span 4 kilometers and takes approximately 2 hours to walk up. The man path through the many Torii is crowded and frequented by tourists, but once you can break off onto a smaller path, you will have a wonderful time with peace and quiet in the sea of bamboo forests.

It is the former ruling palace of the Emperor of Japan. The grounds are massive and expansive. It is a must see for tourists. Some have called the grounds and gardens of the palace Kyoto's version of Central Park.
