Food Scene

The cutest coffee shop steps away from the Myrtle-Broadway JMZ train. All kinds of specialty coffees, including bomb lattes, coconut coffees, vegan chai lattes. There's also a 'nookstore" with local publications such as the Bushwick Review. So happy to have found the place, it's a must!

The New York Times describes this Vietnamese cafe as "fast-casual Asian fusion" with . . . "tables created by a skateboard-park designer, an ancient wood-carved door, an Asian-pop mural, and a Jurassic Park–themed restroom." Definitely a must-see for the neighborhood. My fav items are the vegan pho and ginger brussel sprouts.

This place is a hidden gem near the Myrtle-Broadway JMZ train station. Tucked behind a quaint little flower shop, you'll find big, open & airy space with lots of cafe tables and people on laptops enjoying specialty coffees and sandwiches. Standouts are the "spicy PB&J" with homemade peanut butter & sliced apple, and the Vegan Kobocha Squash Soup.

You could easily walk past Skytown and not give it a second thought. But once you step inside you'll appreciate the cozy ambiance. The food is surprisingly delicious. My favorites are the veggie burger with fries and the grilled salmon with roasted potatoes. So good!

Super cute coffee shop on the way to the G train. You can grab a quick locally roasted cup of joe, a croissant, even a hard-boiled egg if that's your thing.

Not only is the entire menu vegetarian at this teeny little pizzeria, but they also offer vegan pizza by the slice. The decor is a bit punk and kitchy and they'll probably have something interesting projecting on the television monitor while you sit in the intimate space.

Brand new eatery that opened up less than one block from the Myrtle-Broadway JMZ station. The decor is modern and gorgeous and makes me just want to hang out and read or write in my journal for hours. They have a build your own salad bar, wild rice/quinoa bowls with chicken, tuna, or veggie options, and awesome brunch items like avocado toast and hot soups. They also offer coffee, tea, wine and beer to fit whatever mood you happen to be in. So happy to have this addition to the neighborhood!

Super modern and authentic Sicilian eatery. So in love with this place! It's very nondescript from the outside but once you walk in you'll fall for the high ceilings and open air atmosphere. Some favorites are the grass-fed meatballs in tomato sauce, the pasta Norma (also available in a gluten-free option), and the 6oz grass-fed burger. Other highlights are barrel-aged Negroni's and an awesome happy hour. The kind of place that makes their own ketchup. Definitely a neighborhood spot to try out!!

I only just found this hidden gem after living in the neighborhood for two years. It's just a 15-minute walk down Myrtle-Avenue or super quick and cheap Lyft ride (less than 5 minutes and maybe $5). The bartenders are super helpful and knowledgeable and the vibe is hip and cozy. Awesome for a date-night or to meet someone new.

This one's not in the immediate vicinity but it's less than a 5-minute Uber ride away and definitely worth the trip (it's a pretty straight-forward 20-minute walk otherwise). It's a bar owned by musicians and they host musical performances daily. It's a romantic little spot with a wonderful, quality cocktail selection. Definitely a hidden-gem that you'll feel cool about discovering.

Parks & Nature

I like to jog down Myrtle Avenue and then lay out in the sun at this park during the summer time. Bring your tennis racquet if you want to jump on the court.

Mr. Kiwi has been serving health-minded locals for decades. This place is open 24-hours and you can find everything from organic black bean noodles, gluten free ezekiel bread, icelandic yogurt, and tons of fresh produce - often at extremely discounted rates. Located right below the hipster music warehouse venue, Market Hotel (which is often home to a Vegan Popup Market).

Brand new to the neighborhood, this place has quickly become my go-to for most of my grocery needs. The staff is super friendly and they're very conscientious of bringing in organic & healthy options. They also have pizza by the slice, just head to the back of the store where you'l notice that they're also building a dine-in cafe on the second floor.

Shopping

In town for a few days and want to take flowers to your friend who lives in the city? Definitely stop by Flowers by Leslie and ask for Rodrigo, the sweetest guy & owner of the shop, and he'll help you out with whatever you need. (p.s. Cafe Erzulie is right behind this flower shop)
