This café in a refurbished petrol station is one of Hobart’s favorite (and most bustling). The coffee is fantastic, as is the Chinese fried omelet. Great place to sit outside in the sun.

Rin is adorable – authentic Japanese, offering Hobart’s best gyoza and some damn good sashimi. It’s BYO and a pretty cheap and cheerful vibe, but worth it if you like Japanese food.

This place is always busy, and has a great energy. It has a bit less of a touristy vibe than most of the other Salamanca options. Known for their burgers.

Cheap and cheerful Italian, this is a Hobart institution. These are Aussie style pizzas with heaps of toppings and a doughy base, but it’s a lot of fun, and the pasta in particular is excellent.

A very fun sushi train experience, where you order your food via a computer at your table, and it is delivered straight to you via the train. The food is pretty good, and the atmosphere is great. Kids love it.

Ti Ama offers some excellent Italian pizza from a mirror ball wood-fired oven in the heart of Salamanca. The décor is earnestly hipster-Melbourne but the pizza comes from the people behind Local Pizza, so it’s the real deal, despite the touristy location.
