Best lox and bagels in LA., but get there early if you're averse to lines. You can also call in your order. Delicious nova scotia salmon and every type of bagel imaginable. Coffee isn't bad either.

Long lines, but worth the wait if you like bumping into celebrities and prefer your pancakes served extra large.

Best breakfast spot in LA -- simple, no frill eggs, sausage, griddle cakes and salad. Rarely ever a line and worth a 15 minute walk to work off the calories. Open every day until 3pm.

Excellent coffee choices and yearned-for breakfast combos (if you arrive before 2:30p). Quaint "internet cafe" where people eat, drink and work, with racks of magazines to while away your time. Charming spot, 5 minute walk from the house.

My favorite sushi restaurant. Make a reservation to sit at the bar. The quality of food, and ambience, never disappoint. It can get a bit pricey, fyi...

Parks & Nature

L.A. took over the beautiful Wattles Mansion and turned it into two parks and a trail; the two massive lawns are in front and back, and a long, somewhat aggressive trail in back joins up with Runyon Canyon at the peak. Wear shoes with sturdy waffle heels if you plan to hike. A 5 minute walk from the house.

Check out Silver Lake, and its reservoir, if you've got extra time to explore the older and, thus, hipper scenes in current L.A. Too many restaurants to list, but a great tourist attraction if you're in the mood to wander L.A.'s version of the "new" Brooklyn.

I'm sure you've heard its now a word-class museum/destination. A good 30 minute walk, or 10 minute drive. Worth it....

Sightseeing

Eat, drink, shop, people watch, shop, eat, and then see a movie at The Grove. The Farmer's Market opened 85 years ago, which makes it prehistoric in LA-times. Go visit and you'll see every color, age, creed, rank and file of people you could ever imagine --a feast for every one of our senses.
