Food Scene (some of our favorites)

Food is prepared fresh and the wings are large. They have flavors that aren't on the menu (ask them for ideas). It's casual, but family owned. The best wings on the planet (My husband likes Asian bourbon (sauce), I love Parmesan Garlic and "Slap Your Mama" dry rubs. Parking is a bit hard - but it's worth it.

Great place for breakfast. Navigate by GPS because it's on Main Street which "jogs" to the right south of Country Club Plaza. Really large portions, also lots of gluten free options. Everything is fresh. The coffee and lattes are divine. Has a bar. A neighborhood hang out in the Brookside area (near Visitation Parish). There's a pizza place next door we like too.

They are new and a bit hidden, but think of Chipotle's but Japanese style. The food is fresh and delicious. Mostly bowls but you choose what you want in them. Located on Country Club Plaza just around the corner behind Jack Stacks barbecue

You'll hate me for recommending this place but the chocolates are handmade in town and only available here and in San Francisco. I'm partial to bon-bons which have bursts of flavor inside but the square chocolates are divine as well.

This barbecue place is really our favorite. It's a mile from us on 39th street in a strip mall. It's always busy because the food is good (they also do take-out). I always take guests there.

Really fresh food and large portions. Hand crafted juices, and an outdoor seating area. On Gillham right next to Costco. You may find better parking on the north side of the building (towards Linwood) if it's full on the south side. Note the building is one of the few designed 100 years ago by a woman architect. Neighborhoods worked for years to save it after it sat empty for decades. Small businesses have set up shop there now.

Essentials

Only about a mile from the house. It's the closest grocery store and has a sushi bar, a flower shop, and a salad bar as well.

We begged, they built. It's in the Ward Parkway shopping center. The only one in town that we know of. About 5 miles or so down Ward Parkway (south of Country Club Plaza shopping district).

This is a small community grocery store that is not comprehensive but it's not congested and you get get things quickly (plus a few quirky things like Harry Potter butter beer). And they have the BEST hand made smoothies and burgers (think under $9 handmade burgers) at a small kitchen inside.

The entire Tons of shopping and restaurants only 2 miles from our place. Based on city city Seville, Spain. Christmas lighting is particularly pretty. There's also a jogging park on the east end with exercise stations (near the large horse fountain. Parking garages throughout the Plaza area is free.

Old Westport is actually the west end of Westport shopping district. There are a lot of restaurants and shops. This is where the stage coaches stopped on their way out west. So there's a huge stage coach at the corner of Southwest and Westport road. There's a lot of nightlife in the evening on the weekend.

Historic Union Station is where the trains used to come in. Amtrak still stops here but has a smaller waiting room. The architecture is stunning. There's a great restaurant, a post office, an extreme screen theater, and a traveling museum exhibit, a planetarium and a museum of optical illusions.

Arts & Culture

Wonderful history and exhibits of the Negro Leagues Baseball League. And a wonderful surprise to discover that two women played on the teams.

It's a hidden gem. So much going on I can't describe it all. And if you bring children, there are a ton of miniature houses with a mouse hidden in each one.

Next to the Negro Leagues Museum. A great place to learn about the birth of Jazz with plenty of music listening stations.
