“Shakespear Regional Park is located at the uppermost tip of Whangaparoa Peninsula – making it a perfect spot to get a glimpse of the Hauraki Gulf in its best possible light. If you’re keen to see a bit of native wildlife, the Tiri Tiri Track will be right up your alley. Birdwatchers, picnicking families and keen hikers all flock over to the regional park for a summer’s day trip. The Tiri Tiri Track is well-suited for all fitness levels: it’s only five kilometres (3.1-miles) long, and would usually take a couple of hours to complete.”

“McLaren Falls is 10 minutes away from Seventh Heaven. You are in for a treat with many things to do, so here we go... Marshalls Animal Park is in the park with a range of domestic and exotic animals, super for children to see. Phone 07 543 1099. Falls Cafe is located by the information centre. Phone 07 543 4976. Beautiful walking tracks and walkways so have your camera ready. Trout fishing happens all year-round in Lake McLaren and in the Ruahihi Canal. You need a fishing licence prior to visiting the park which can purchased from some sports shops or online through Fish and Game New Zealand. Licences are not available to purchase from McLaren Falls Park. Wairoa River and McLaren Falls activities On the Wairoa river near Tauranga you can enjoy kayaking, rafting, fishing, running and setting up for a picnic. White water for kayakers and rafters is regularly released from McLaren Falls dam during warm months . I have done this and strongly recommend it for adrenalin junkies!”

“Beautiful undeveloped beach surrounded by dense native bush. Walk across the stream at the west end of Whangapoua Beach and follow the coast to the marked path over the headland to New Chums. The Whangapoua side is stony and can be hard going but it is totally worth it.”

“Great place for short or multiple-day bush walks and anything in between. Waterfall with several lookout points and only about a 10-minute drive from Clevedon Village. No cafes, so bring a picnic or snack and water bottle. There are toilet facilities and in summertime, it's lovely to go for a swim, do expect the locals there too at the weekend. Shoe cleaning stations, due to the Kauri dieback disease, cannot be avoided so think about that when you consider the type of shoes you want to be wearing. A great place to go for a quick or extended nature fix. There are multiple bushwalk options there and more in the area, so if you want to go back for more after your first visit, consult dr Google :-) ”

“This is a place where you can put down facebook and youtube and really breathe! Whether you are looking for a quiet stroll, a family picnic or a heart thumping workout you can find it all in Rural South Auckland. The best time to go is a sunny day after a good rain. The falls will be full and spectacular, and the air will be so clean you can taste it. No charge for entry, it is popular with families, dog walkers and serious trampers, but don't let that put you off. You can always find a quiet spot away from others if that is what you're looking for.”
