“Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is 2,000 acres of coastal state park located in the community of La Jolla, off North Torrey Pines Road. Although it is located within San Diego city limits, it remains one of the wildest stretches of land (8 km²) on the Southern California coast. The reserve consists of a plateau with cliffs that overlook Torrey Pines State Beach, and a lagoon that is vital to migrating seabirds.”

“ After you have visited the Cabrillo National Monument head to Sunset Cliffs Natural Park; one of the best places in the city to watch the sun go down. Comprised of 68 acres of National Park, this jagged shoreline is full of dramatic cliffs, caves and miles of ocean. Head down a set of steep stairs to explore the caves and secluded beaches or walk along the soft dirt path behind the rails for some outstanding views of San Diego. Parking is along the path in one of many lots but do head there before sunset to get a spot. Make sure to bring your camera to capture the sun as it sets among ocean blue water, swelling waves and towering cliffs.”

“ WELCOME TO OLD TOWN SAN DIEGO OLD TOWN is the historic heart of San Diego. Created in 1769, Old Town San Diego was California’s first settlement with only a mission and a fort. Wander through lush gardens or browse at one of the many specialty shops for treasures from around the world. Indulge in authentic Mexican food at one of the many restaurants or dance to the strolling mariachis. Pause to reflect at the fountains at Fiesta de Reyes and in the Bazaar del Mundo and plan a day or two to visit the dozens of historic sites. Take a tour of a haunted building and spend a day at one of the many museums. Year round, Old Town is the place for food, folklore, and fun. Visit Old Town, celebrate San Diego’s heritage, and bask in early California ambiance. Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is in the center of Old Town. Here you can experience life from the early Mexican-American period of 1821-1872 through rich living history programs. Watch forms come to life at the blacksmith and woodworker shops, and read a newspaper from the 19th century. Old Town San Diego, where Interstate 5 and Interstate 8 meet, is nestled in the heart of San Diego. Old Town is just across the street from the San Diego Trolley Old Town Transit Center, across the freeway from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) and a short drive from most San Diego destinations. ”

“One of the best areas for sightseeing and shopping, La Jolla is well known for the amount of biodiversity. Get a kayak trip organized, check out the sea lions, catch some dolphins, or just go for some fine dining. A little far away but always a pleasant surprise. ”

“La Jolla Shores is a great spot for families because the waves are typically not too strong and there are many outdoor activities to enjoy there. Kayaks, surfboards, and snorkeling/diving gear are available for rent also for those looking to be more active. There is also a playground adjacent to the beach for those looking to stay on land. In the fall, leopard sharks (they're harmless to people!) are often seen along the shallows of the beach with their babies. ”

Dog Run
“This is a real, beachy beach on Coronado Island and the dog beach is right next to the Navy base. There are real waves here. Parking can be tricky on busy days, you may need to walk some blocks to the beach, but it's worth it. This beach does have an area to rinse off near the street.”

“This is a good beach for all ages. There is surfing for those who want to be active. There is a kids' playground area. It is a good beach for walking (check the tide first!). During super low tides you can walk south to the caves.”

Beach
“This is our family favorite beach. It is about a 25 minute drive but we go there a lot. The small parking lot overlooks a well loved wave that almost always has surfers on it. If you are up for it, walk down the stairs to the tide pools (low tide) and a lovely beach next to the cliffs. This gives it more of a nature feel than some of the other beaches. ”
