“Washington’s face on the dollar bill is one of the most widely recognized portraits of him. Famed artist Gilbert Stuart was born here in 1755. He painted many important figures like John Adams, James Madison, and of course, George Washington. The authentically restored 18th century home is attached to an operating 18th century snuff mill, the first in America, with water wheel. The museum's art gallery features a permanent collection of original Gilbert Stuart paintings as well as changing exhibitions of original work by other artists. Built in 1751, the home and nearby 18th century grist mill are open for tours. The property also has trails, a herb garden, and a boat dock.”

Museum
“This electrical and mechanical engineering museum emphasizes the beginnings of radio and steam power. The museum honors engineers who achieved greatness and served the public good by analyzing and solving tough engineering problems. The museum is both archival and educational. This museum preserves the original Massie coastal wireless station, which was moved from Point Judith, Rhode Island. This station, built in 1907 to communicate with marine shipping, is the oldest surviving, originally equipped wireless station anywhere. It symbolizes the very start of the electronics industry.”

“Site of circa 1638 trading posts established by Rhode Island founder Roger Williams and trader Richard Smith and the center of 17th century land disputes between Narragansett Tribe, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts. The home was destroyed in King Philip's War, rebuilt circa 1678, then renovated circa 1740, as one of the largest eighteenth-century Rhode Island slave-holding plantations. Smith's Castle is know for its award-winning twentieth-century restoration and is a National Register Historic Building & Archeological site. Costumed Docents give one hour tours featuring trading room and plantation era collection and lifestyle. Gift shop.”

“Serving as a memorial to the thousands of men and women who served in the US Navy Seabees during WWII, the mission of the museum is to preserve the historical "Original Home of the Seabees' and the story of this significant period in Rhode Island history. It’s important to note that the museum was built by Seabees, and is run by Seabees, for Seabees and their families, as well as for the public.”
