“Housed in a hulk of a building (originally a pumping station) on the busy traffic artery of Avenida del Libertador, the National Museum of Fine Arts is a vast treasury of Argentinian and Latin American art and painting from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as one of the most important in Latin America. In the dozens of rooms you'll find heavyweight Argentinian artists. Although the emphasis here is on Latin American art, you'll also find important collections of European art and a smattering of American and Asian art. From Tuesday to Friday, 12:30pm to 8:30pm Saturday & Sunday, 9:30am to 8:30pm”

History Museum
“The Evita Museum (Museo Evita) is devoted to Eva Perón, one of Argentina´s most polarizing historical figures as well as the subject of the stage and film musical of the same name. A series of exhibits, including personal effects and memorabilia, chronicle Evita’s life from her childhood through her political career. The Basics Since it opened in 2002, on the 50th anniversary of Evita’s death, the museum has become one of Buenos Aires’ most popular attractions. Artifacts include a beautifully preserved selection of her clothing and personal possessions, as well as photographs, memorabilia, and video footage. Most notable is her voter card, marked Number 1: a symbol of her achievements in securing the vote for Argentine women in 1947. Last but not least, it has an excellent restaurant located beside the museum. ”

The building now houses the National Museum of the Cabildo and the May Revolution, and displays original artefacts and documents as well as interactive exhibits on the Spanish colonial era, the British invasions of 1806 and 1807, and the early days of independence. The museum was renovated in 2016, and now includes access to the former jail and more historic documents.”

“• The Obelisk (Monserrat): The "Obelisco" reminds in each of its faces a historical "porteño" fact: the first foundation, in 1536; the second and definitive, in 1580; the first time the National flag was raised in the city, in 1812 (in the church of San Nicolás, which was raised precisely where nowadays the "Obelisco" stands); and the constitution of Buenos Aires as the Argentine capital in 1880. ”

“Plaza Dorrego is the historic square in the heart of the San Telmo neighbourhood, surrounded by bars and cafes. Every Sunday, the square is the focal point for a bustling arts and antiques fair that has something of a carnival atmosphere. Almost 300 antiques sellers set up shop in the square and along Calle Defensa, offering a mix of old furnishings and ornaments - some that belonged to the historic mansions in the area - plus old advertising signs, vinyl records, soda siphons, musical instruments, clocks and more. The fair has become such a success that stalls now extend around the surrounding streets, in Calle Defensa, Humberto Primo and part of Pasaje Giuffra. Most of the stalls in Plaza Dorrego itself sell antiques, while those in Calle Defensa sell more contemporary crafts and oddities and in Pasaje Giuffra you can also find clothing. Several restaurants in the area have tables on the street, while historic bars sometimes offer shows, artists open their ateliers and the streets have a lively atmosphere, with tango, organ players, mime artists, clowns, and more”
