DC-Hyatt digs w/ waterfall and dogs

Отдельная комната в жилье типа жилой дом, хозяин: Geneen

3 гостя, 1 спальня, 2 кровати, 1 отдельная ванная
Расширенная уборка
Хозяин следует расширенному протоколу уборки.
Lovely English tudor located in the historic Hyattsville Arts District, 3.0 miles to the University of Maryland, 3.9 miles to Archives II, 4 miles to the College Park airport and museum, 7.5 miles to the Capitol, 1/2 block from a bus stop or a 15 min walk to PG Plaza metro station on the green line (and then 30-40 min into D.C.). Enjoy an outside waterfall with a patio view just beyond your sliding glass bedroom door. Private entrance and bath. 15% discount for monthly stays.

The bedroom has a sliding-glass door to patio with three seating areas. An additional two outside decks, in addition to the patio, make for lovely places to have breakfast (bring your own) or an evening cigar (no smoking inside/legal tobacco only). Common areas include a washer-dryer, toaster oven, toaster, coffee maker, microwave, sink, and utensils along with seating areas and a television (there is also a hotplate in the bedroom). All linens, towels and toiletries are provided.

Using their very best nonverbal communication strategies, our golden retriever, Lady, may request tummy rubs and our little black and white Juno may request she give you kisses, and we hope you would not be offended nor feel obligated. In fact, you will run into them only if you are outside, if we are socializing together, and/or if you allow their company in your space. By the way, Lady and Juno enjoy other four-legged friends, so feel free to bring your dog (provided you will clean up after the pet, of course). Lady and Juno also often have play dates with other dogs from the neighborhood, so you may see a seven month old puppy or grey haired terrier running around the yard too. (They love playing in the waterfall.)

GLBT friendly and affirming.

Free driveway and/or street parking (please let us know if you are driving so we can show you where to park).

Guest(s) may hear the occasional squeaky floorboard above the guest room while we are awake; we tend to stay up until about 11p and start moving around at 6:30a or so. One light sleeper mentioned hearing footsteps from above, so if you are sensitive to noise, it could be a consideration.

Buses 86 or 13 are in service between our home and the metro (the bus stop is less than a block from our house and the metro is less than a mile). Check out wmata on the internet for bus and train schedule (BE CAREFUL--Buses also go to ANOTHER 41 / Oglethorpe NO WHERE NEAR our home. Be sure driver is NOT taking you to Chillum or to Washington D.C. You want to go to Hyattsville.)

Despite being only 7.5 miles to D.C., it takes about 35-45 minutes to get into the city using public transportation (about $8-10 round trip). If you have a car, there is a $12/day lot off 9th between I St and New York Avenue. A couple of buses pick up near the lot and will take commuters within a block of the White House. Check WMATA for details. However, since it is only .7 miles to the White House from the lot (according to web search) commuters may simply want to walk.

Are you interested in an experience? Just let us know. Here are some opportunities if interested (we are also available to socialize informally without additional costs as time permits):

1. Orientation Drive (20-30 min, free upon request)
Geneen or Aaron will take you for a drive around the neighborhood to identify locations of interest including: local parks, shopping, restaurants, corner store, bus stop and route to the metro station.

2. English class and sightseeing. ($99/per person/4+ hours per day)
Spend the day learning English and seeing the sites in Washington D.C. with Geneen. Geneen has spent the better part of her 15+ years of her teaching career working with speakers of languages other than English. She received her M.A.T.E.S.O.L. from SIT Graduate Institute/World Learning in 2011 and has worked with students from middle school through graduate school. In addition to tutoring individual clients, Geneen has worked for Miami Carol Sr. High, Baltimore Community College (PG-Refugee Assistance Program), and Johns Hopkins University-SAIS.

3. Bike the riverfront trail from Bladensburg to as far as Washington D.C. ($25/person, per hour includes bike rental); only available on weekends with Aaron (weather permitting).

4. Ultimate cigar experience (1-2 hours, $30/person)
Have you always wanted to try smoking cigars? Or are you an experienced smoker already? Either way, you can enjoy the ultimate cigar experience with Aaron, who is a bit of an aficionado and usually enjoys an evening cigar. He keeps his humidor stocked with a variety of good smokes. Experience includes joining Aaron for an excellent complementary cigar and instruction in how to cut, light and smoke it properly (if you need such instruction). If it’s cool out, he’ll probably get a fire going in the fire pit. If it’s raining, there are two different covered areas available, one with heat. Of course, if you do not smoke cigars, you are welcome to join Aaron outside whenever he is there (free/no cost).

5. Jewelry with Geneen. (1-2 hours, $5/hr plus materials) Spend a couple of hours sipping wine or a cocktail (byo) while making gifts for friends and family. Materials (example): .50 x 7 beads, a headpin (.50), and earring loop (.50) = $4.50 x 2 earrings (.50 x 18 pieces = $9.00).

6. Find the family stories which historical records reveal. Take a journey with Geneen as she uses her “all access” ancestry dot c subscription to identify census, military, vital and other records from your family tree. ($25/hr and Geneen will take you to the National Archives for research or use her $389 yearly subscription to help answer your family questions.)

7. Field trip into Baltimore. Geneen will travel with 1-3 guests to the Baltimore National Aquarium (tickets $40) and either wait up to 5 hours for guests to be ready to go home or, if invited, join guests to view the Aquarium (free/byo ticket/based on Geneen's availability.)

Other notes
We were recently reminded to let folks know ***NOT*** to request for us to show you the place before booking it. We have found it confuses the booking process (do we put the potential days on hold or not/what do we tell other people, what about instant book, etc.) We have also found in our own travels that reviews through Airbnb are a good indicator of what to expect. Of course, if you need more information before making a decision we hope you will ask. You could also book a shorter period; for example, one guest chose to book a month but then booked for several months. (However, we can not guarantee the space will be available beyond the time booked.)
Also, as a private residence, our international and out-of-state guests are welcomed as friends or family provided we have been properly introduced through Airbnb first. Therefore, a completed Airbnb profile, including A PICTURE of who we will greet at our door, is required prior to booking. Please help us also begin to know you before you arrive by including a bio in your profile and/or providing information about what brings you to the area in an email. Thank you!!

We like that our neighborhood is historic with lots of diversity in design, socio-economic status and ethnicity. It's also cool to be able to walk or take a five minute bus ride to the metro, parks and/or restaurants. There is also a mall, with a Target & Macy's, restaurants and grocery stores a short walk from the PG Plaza Metro station (see our guide for more information).

Во время проживания

It's important for us to have at least one quality conversation with our guests when we are in town. We could make other plans as well depending on circumstances and schedules. For example, we've had dinner with guests and played board games with others. If you would like to schedule a formal experience, feel free to check out the options under the listing description; however, we are also up for socializing informally too as time permits. Aaron has even pulled out his guitar so we could sing folk songs together. We're flexible. Just let us know in what you would be interested. Send us a text accordingly, so we can schedule our plans with you!
