THE GEM OF THE TASMANIAN WEST COAST
The Lodge occupies a very privileged sunny, absolute riverfront position on the south bank of the river, just ~250 metres upstream of where the Arthur River flows into the sea.
The Lodge's combination of the quality of the accommodation and its outlook over a fabulous view makes it the gem of the rental accommodation offered in the Arthur River Village.
The Arthur River Village is also a gem, because it is the only settlement on the West Coast that sits astride a major river right at its mouth. The Southern Ocean pounds on the beach and the river bar just downstream from the Lodge.
The "gem" status of the Arthur River Village is further confirmed, firstly by it being surrounded by a huge conservation park which teems with wildlife and secondly, by it being sandwiched between the sea to the west and the Tarkine Forest to the east. The Arthur River is navigable for 15km. as it winds upstream through the majestic forest of the Tarkine.

AN ELEGANT, UNUSUAL BUILDING ECHOING ITS ORIGINS-
The building is special because it is one of a kind, being adapted from the original floor plan of the sprawling family “shack” that it was before its major adaptation and rebuild in 2007.
The design showcases the views of the river and sea from within. The décor is clean and modern.

WHEEL CHAIR ACCESSIBLE AND FRIENDLY-
The Downstream Apartment meets Australian Standard 1428 for wheelchair access (1 of the 2 bedrooms only)

THE MAIN ROOM IS A SPECIAL FEATURE-
It has a lofty ceiling with interesting angles and large windows facing to the North and West which showcase the magnificent view. The sitting area centres around the wood stove, for which wood is supplied.
This room includes The kitchen and dining areas. The bedrooms and bathroom open into this main room.

BOTH BEDROOMS HAVE FITTED CARPETS AND WARDROBES -
One has a queen bed and the second (wheelchair accessible) has 2 divan beds on castors.

THE BATHROOM IS SPACIOUS AND MODERN-
This is fully compliant with Australian standards for wheel chair access, having a large shower enclosure without a threshold and shower curtains. The WC has adequate space around it for transfer from a wheelchair and hand rails on the wall beside. The handbasin meets standards for use from a wheel chair.
There is no bath, but a baby bath is available. The washing machine and dryer are housed in the bathroom.

HEATED THROUGHOUT IN FOUR WAYS-
The sun warms the main room. In its absence, you can choose between the charm of the slow combustion wood stove or the reverse-cycle air conditioner. Bedrooms have thermostatically controlled child-safe electrical panel heaters.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED, APART FROM FOOD/PERSONAL ITEMS-
We aim to provide everything that you will need during your holiday, to cover the most important components of a holiday: cooking, eating, drinking (well at least receptacles and water), washing, social contacts, sitting outside, enjoying nature, being warm and sleeping.
All linen and bedding are provided. An iron, ironing board and a hairdryer are supplied.
The kitchen is completely equipped with a full size oven and cook top, a good size fridge/freezer, a microwave oven (at a wheelchair accessible height) and dishwasher.
The TV has a satellite feed and there is a DVD player and sound system. We do not provide internet access, but this can be readily achieved via your mobile phone if you are with Telstra or Optus, since there is a phone tower in the Village.

RELAX OUTSIDE ON THE PATIO-
There is a wide, sheltered north-facing patio which is shared with the other apartment. The sunny patio faces the river and sea and each apartment has a large outdoor table. The patio can be shaded with the market umbrellas provided.
This is a great spot for using the Downstream apartment's mobile gas-fired barbecue.

A CHILD FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT(URL HIDDEN)High chairs and cots (with linen) are available on request at no extra cost. There are plates and cutlery suitable for small children.
The good laundry facilities help reduce the effort required to deal with those rapidly increasing piles of little peoples’ dirty clothes.
The extensive lawn to the north of the patio between the building and the river is fenced off, with a child-safe lock on the gate that leads to the river bank and gates on access paths to the street on the south side, so that this area is safe for small children.
For older children, there is plenty of safe play space around the Lodge, Including the calm, sandy beach towards the river mouth, only 200 metres from the Lodge

Что доступно гостю
The extensive, gently sloping lawn between the house and river is shared between the two apartments. The carport is reserved for guests in the Downstream apartment. There is plenty of space for parking a boat or a second vehicle on the grassy verge of Gardiner Street. The large shed is not available for use by guests.
The river bank is easily reached beyond the fenced area and is suitable for mooring small boats or canoes.

Важная информация
THE ARTHUR RIVER VILLAGE IS VERY SMALL
Only about 25 people live full-time in the Village. Many houses are holiday places owned by north coast Tasmanians, cognoscenti of what is special around the place.
There are only two small shops which carry a limited range of foods. There is no fuel bowser. Two small shops 15 and 20 km north of the Village have a reasonable range of foods, but the nearest supermarket is in Smithton, ~60km north-east of the Village. For guests coming from the north-west coast, it is best to buy main food supplies in Smithton.

PETS ARE WELCOME, BUT BY PRIOR ARRANGEMENT-
We appreciate how much pleasure people get from bringing their pets on holiday with them, so we welcome these, provided you let us know in advance that you will be bringing one or two pets (sorry- packs of hounds of any sort are not accommodated).
Pets must not sit or lie on seats or beds, nor be washed inside the Lodge. and must not be allowed to chase the wild life.

Arthur River, Тасмания, Австралия

EXPERIENCE THE REALLY WILD TASMANIA-
You will be sandwiched between the wild, virtually deserted coast and the Tarkine Forest, thanks to the unique position of the Arthur River Village, right on the rugged west coast.
This is the only easily accessed Tasmanian West Coast settlement that is right on the shores of the Southern Ocean. It straddles the mouth of the wild and undammed Arthur River, which traverses the Tarkine Forest(URL HIDDEN)
Arthur River is a very popular holiday destination for Tasmanians who live in better known and more busy parts of the island.

SEE WILDLIFE ALL AROUND YOU-
The Village is surrounded by the extensive Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area, which encompasses the Tarkine Forest. It teems with wildlife. The animals treat the Village as part of their home. Wombats have burrows in many places within the Village and, along with wallabies, are seen frequently. Spotted quolls and Tasmanian devils live within or walk through the village and are most likely to be seen at night.

GREAT FISHING AT A LITTLE KNOWN DESTINATION-
Apart from people living on the north and west Coasts of Tasmania, the Arthur River area is little known for its fishing. It is, in fact, a great destination for the fisherman, as there are trout (very crafty) in the river and good rock and beach fishing.

SURF AND WAVE-SAIL AT A MECCA FOR THESE SPORTS-
The coast just north of Arthur River is famed for its surf on a variety of breaks. This coast attracts major national surf and wave-sailing events, which usually centre on Green’s Beach, near Marrawah, 15 km away.

EXPLORE THE COAST AROUND-
The wild coast of sweeping beaches, rocky outcrops and coves on either side of the Arthur River mouth is easily reached on foot from the village.
More distant parts of the coastline to both south and north can be accessed at multiple points by road.

BOAT UP THE RIVER INTO THE TARKINE-
The magnificent Tarkine Forest can be visited by taking a boat up the Arthur River from the Village for up to 15km in a tinnie and much further in a canoe.
You can bring your own vessel which you can launch into the river from the boat ramp just down the road and then keep it on the riverbank in front of the Riverfront Lodge.
No boat? Then hire a boat or canoe in the village from the Boat Hire, but if you do not want to be your own skipper, you can catch an Arthur River Cruise on the George Robinson, which runs up the river virtually every day, apart from mid-winter. This cruise stops deep in the forest for a barbecue and conducted walk through the forest. This characterful boat leaves just across the river from the Lodge. Book early.

SO MUCH TO SEE IN THE AREA AROUND-
There are many other attractions within a 100km radius, including pretty, historic Stanley which offers tours of Highfield House, boat trips to a seal colony, or climb the Nut, a volcanic plug that looms over Stanley (the faint-hearted take the chair lift).
Visit the Tarkine Forest Experience at Dismal Swamp (the people who called it "Dismal Swamp" were not into promotion of tourism, a bit like those who named "Mount Misery" or "Point Avoid"[(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), on the way to Smithton, but if your bones are impacted on by time, it might be wise to walk down, rather than take the slide into the Dismal Swamp sink hole.
Other attractions include the huge dairy and wind farm at Woolnorth, right on the top left corner of Tasmania; the Dip Falls Forestry Reserve and the Tarkine Forest Reserves at Julius River, Lake Chisholm, Milkshake Hills and the Wes Baker Falls, now accessible from Arthur River Village by a fully sealed road loop, the Tarkine Drive.

INCLUDE ARTHUR RIVER IN A LOOP AROUND TASMANIA-
The Western Explorer Road, which turns right off the now sealed Tarkine Drive after it has turned inland at Couta Rocks, 15 km south of Arthur River (well sign-posted), is a great way of heading south to the lower Tasmanian west coast and, in due course, to Hobart.
The Western Explorer road is partly unsealed, but is suitable for an ordinary 2 wheel drive car, driven with care, as it is well-maintained. The road first traverses heathland and then forest to reach Corinna, on the Pieman River.
Corinna is a charming, historic place on the north bank of the river, with one provider of accommodation and camping, limited food shopping, but a surprisingly large bar and restaurant (URL HIDDEN)
You can cross the Pieman River on the "Fatman", a privately-owned barge (limited hours, usually 9.00 am to 7.00 pm in summer, but please check) to reach Zeehan, Strahan and other points on the more southern parts of the West Coast and, of course, Hobart.
The road south of the Pieman River is all sealed. Make sure you have plenty of fuel in your tank. The first fuel pump is at Zeehan.

I am friendly outgoing person who has lived in this area all my life. I grew up fishing, water skiing and white water canoeing ( 50 km upstream) on the Arthur River and love living in Tasmania.
