1.4 miles from the heart of downtown Des Moines and located in a vibrant, urban neighborhood, this first story apartment of an 1890's home really gives you a chance to get to know the city.

My husband and I renovated this house over the past year. We put a lot of heart and soul (and work!) into making this home a lovely place to welcome guests to Des Moines! This home is part of a vibrant neighborhood, just outside the Historic Riverbend District and a short drive, bus, or bike ride into Downtown.

Check-in on your own schedule and make yourself at home!

Expect quiet mornings with complementary coffee and tea, soft natural light filling the home, and rustic original hardwood floors from the 1890's under your feet. Wind down after a full day exploring the city with some candles, a hot shower or bath in an artisan epoxy resin tub surround, and peruse some of the books while relaxing on the very comfy couch. Pickup some fresh produce from the renowned Downtown Farmers Market or the local international grocer, C Fresh, and make a few fresh meals in the spacious kitchen.

The bedroom is on the smaller size but is very elegant and features a pillow top full bed, body pillow, and cooling memory foam pillows.

The living room has comfortable seating and also a desk with a small SmartTV and HDMI cord to connect your laptop to work remotely. The WIFI is strong!

The art in the home is primarily from two different periods of my life: the larger oil paintings and the drawing in the bedroom are from a collection called Light in the Dark, done in my early twenties. The pieces were a way of me expressing and working through discernment of major life decisions and which direction to take my life. The smaller pieces with vibrant orange and black and white patterns are from a collection I did for the World Food Prize annual Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium. These pieces are reflections on the solidarity of humanity and the ability of people to come together to solve major problems.

All the perks of Downtown Des Moines are a quick drive, Lyft, or bus ride away. You could even walk if you enjoy longer walks (I sure do when visiting other cities). 1 - 2 miles to everything downtown including the Downtown Farmers Market, Des Moines Civic Center, Wells Fargo Arena, East Village shops, the Pappajohn Sculpture Park and more! Be sure to check out the Des Moines Social Club, have a drink on Court Ave, and stroll the pedestrian bridge and Asian Gardens along the river.

Pho 515 - Pho restaurant within the C Fresh Market, an amazing international food grocer, specializing in SE Asian ingredients. Within walking distance of the property and definitely worth a visit to this local favorite.

Tacos Marianna's - a personal favorite hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants.

Additionally, this area often has food trucks parked nearby for a fun, fast meal.

It's a delight and honor to be a host. I'm excited to share my favorite places in this city that I love and open up many of the houses my husband and I have renovated to guests. Plus I love meeting people and hearing what brings someone to Des Moines.

We've been renovating houses in the area since 2015; we fell into it when we got engaged and just starting fixing up my sweet old home in Historic Valley Junction. We kept buying other fixer-uppers and between his engineering background and my design background, we are able to make each place really special. Adding in furniture, artwork, a selection of my favorite books, and so on is a further expression of my creativity and hospitality that I really enjoy.

Outside of the time we put into our real estate projects, I enjoy reading, going to watch my husband's basketball games, playing with our kids, art, technology, and exploring the world.
