"Orangewood" is a lovely rural 5 bedroom property on the top of a hill with beautiful views, surrounded by 44 acres of vineyard and cattle paddocks. In the southern Orange wine region, it's 20 mins drive from Orange and 10 mins drive from historic Millthorpe with cafes & cellar doors. Orangewood has established grassed areas and gardens, massive pool with views, fireplaces, 2 living areas, outdoor entertaining, toyroom & vast spaces. It's a destination, not just a place to sleep!

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS > We have a mandatory minimum 3 day buffer between bookings - infact most bookings are mostly weekend only. This allows plenty of time for cleaning and reduced risk of any transmission.
We also ask if guests plan on visiting local facilities/cafes/shops etc to download and install the COVID-19 app. At a minimum, we request a record of people staying at the property inc name/address/contact number in case the unthinkable happens and contact tracing needs to occur. Let's protect the local regional communities who are already fragile after a horror bushfire/smoke/drought season. Thank you in advance!

With a 'Welcome Gift" of local food/wine produce, stoke up the fireplaces in the winter, or jump straight into the pool in the summer and settle in for the night. Wake up in the mornings to peace and for early birds, enjoy beautiful sun rises. Wander outside in the gardens with your morning cuppa, breathe in fresh country air. For the active, nice brisk walks or a run on the local roads is very popular.

Back inside, "Orangewood" has an excellent northerly layout to provide lots of sunny areas. With floor to ceiling glass windows, it encapsulates the wonderful large garden terrace pergola and views across the front lawns & beyond. Enjoy your breakfast at the dining table whilst watching the bird bath and the beautiful rainbow lorrikeets fly in.

For all those home made Masterchefs, they'll love the large kitchen and freestanding extra wide oven, Gas cooktop, Large fridge + drinks fridge, Asko dishwasher, entertaining platters, bench space and all the cooking (& cleaning) utensils you could need. There's also a condiment cupboard for use including local olive oil. In the large kitchen, enjoy your feast in the dining area with 12 seater, flexible configuration dining tables. Plus there's the adjacent laundry with ironing and clothes washing facilities if needed.

Perfect for the cooler months, Orangewood is well insulated with 2 wood fireplaces as centrepieces of the large lounge rooms. Enjoy the ambience with the firewood we provide whilst cosy inside. It could be a winter wonderland outside (July/August) if you are lucky to have snow. (Underfloor heating is optional charge per night - see Things you need to know)

In the summer, it's perfect temperature inside and out as the region only reaches low 30C maximums. You'll love the kitchen overlooking the 18m fully glassed fence pool on the southern side. Entertain on the large south verandah with the pool metres away which is great for kid supervision. Cook up a feast on the large gas BBQ whilst your drinks keep cool in the spare drinks fridge just inside the back door. We provide some basic pool toys, plus with the kids imagination, everyone will have fun in the largest private pool you'll probably ever experience.

With two separate lounge/living zones, there's 2 flat screen TVs & plenty of space for all ages. Books, board games and movie DVD's keep everyone occupied inside when it's raining. The Orange region generally has an abundance of blue skies and clear days, so during the day, use the expansive grass areas for outdoor games such as bocce, totem tennis, balls, cricket and a skateboard to name a few.

"Orangewood" is definitely great for kids to be free whilst the adults relax. The kids will love the toyroom complete with toys and books for a range of ages. Outside, there's plenty of space for riding bikes with 4 different size bikes and helmets supplied in the shed. With grassed areas for outdoor sport games, plus toddler tree swing, there's plenty of dirt to play in and space for the kids to be real.

If you feel like venturing further, using our visitor guide, you can travel to historic Millthorpe and stroll around the village cafes and general store. That's one of the secrets of "Orangewood" - whilst you are in a rural area, you are only 15 mins from Millthorpe and great coffee/cafes. With the tourist information and Orange region winery maps we provide, it's not too far to whiz into town ie the bustling vibrant regional city of Orange, visit famous Orange wineries, be about 40 mins to Bathurst, or a day trip to Dubbo Zoo.

So back at "Orangewood" in the evening - the skyline is often just perfect for orange sunsets amongst the tree lines. Once the sun is set, from the back porch, the night sky and stars are just amazing. The Milky Way galaxy is falling upon you, it seems so close. Free of light pollution, these are skies you rarely see in metro areas.

When it comes to head hit pillow time, you'll experience comfortable and quality bedding with plentiful pillows and a bedside light. Winter wool quilts and electric blankets keep you warm in the winter with fan heaters. You don't need to worry about bathroom linen either, as we provide professionally laundered, quality bath towels, hand towels and bath mats.

We're also environmentally friendly at "Orangewood" so you can use our freely provided organic shower gel and handwash to keep our septic tank healthy. And for a better planet, we're proud supporters of the not-for-profit whogivesacrap website for our toilet paper, kitchen roll and even the box of tissues - using recycled, earth friendly materials to support developing nations sanitary needs.

You have exclusive use of this working cattle farm and entire property for your stay. This is just not a house - it's a destination with the 44 acres of cattle and vineyards (although we lock paddocks to stop cattle theft). You might see our resident echidna, occasional kangaroo, pesky rabbits and will definitely see plenty of mapgies, blue wrens and lorrikeets. Us humans won't bother you at all and provide a keylock box for door entry.

We provide local produce such as Angullong wine, Orange Origin chocolate, Hazelnut Breakfast Muesli from nearby Fourjay Hazelnut Farms, fresh Aracana 'blue' farm eggs (if chooks are laying), local Preserves from 'Permanently Pickled'. Local Honey from HungryBee and Bacon too if pigs next door have met their maker recently! This is in addition to some basics plus condiments in the fridge and pantry. Feel free to wander to the newly established baby orchard area to see if there is any fruit depending upon the season.


BOOKING PREFERENCE: We prefer bookings from families and mature age groups due to a prior bad experience so strictly NO 18ths/21st/30ths/40ths/BUCKS/HENS PARTIES. Definitely no more than 15 people visiting or sleeping at anyone time on the property - council licensing is for 12 to sleep. It's just not worth the aggravation of neighbour complaints because of the noise, being at risk of losing our holiday let license, the amount of vehicles travelling up and down that impact neighbours and big cleanups with larger groups than 15 even if just visiting for the day. Please enquire before booking if you have any questions.

POOL OPEN LATE NOV/DEC - APRIL approximately. Please check with us BEFORE booking for Nov or April on the status of the pool. This is a cool climate region and we can advise you on whether it will be warm enough.

UNDERFLOOR HEATING: Is an additional charge due to the increasing cost of electricity to run this heating for this very large house at $180/night (we just pass the cost on). We're sorry but we just can't factor this cost into your existing nightly rate. We will refund you the unused portion as we have smart metering on the property. You still have the 9 fan heaters and fireplaces should you not take up this option (so far no one has and are comfortable, understanding they are coming to cool climate region and staying in a well insulated not-new house).

Note: Minimum Stay 2 nights/3 nights on public holiday weekends and 4 nights over Xmas. Rates vary depending upon dates. Christmas/NY, Easter, October L/Wend are peak periods.

We're proud supporters of whogivesacrap website - for our septic friendly toilet paper, tree-free kitchen towel and tissues (all chemical free). 50% of all profits go to Wateraid to build sanitary facilities in developing countries.

Orangewood is surrounded by family owned small to medium sized farms and the locals are very friendly. The Forest Reefs tavern about 2km down the road is a local meeting place with a bar and bistro for farmers and families alike. There are restaurants/cafes in Millthorpe/Orange and the roads are good for cycling or long walks. There's a vistors guide in the house with more holiday information re attractions, wineries etc.

Hi - We love our farm "Orangewood" and live in Sydney for work. The times we can't visit we love guests to be our custodians of this wonderful property and to appreciate what it has to offer. We want to share this with like minded people who respect the environment, serenity, the bird life and the hard work we put into maintaining it (we're fitter than ever!). You'll have exclusive use of the property for your stay too. We won't intrude unless you call us with an issue (and hopefully there shouldn't be any!).
