If you want to discover new flavours from Turkey, learn how to choose the freshest produce at a market, and eat a lot of diverse and tasty food then join me on this guided tour of the famous Maybachhufer Turkish Market by the Landwehr Canal in Neukölln. On this 1 hour long tour you will be guided by "Greenie" your local foodie expert. He's not just knowledgeable about the food and flavours in front of you but also about the food production system as a whole. The tour starts at the top of the market on Kottbuser Dam. Over the hour our small group (max. 6) will make a few planned stops: -Learn what fruit and vegetables are in season and how to choose the best produce at the many market stalls. -Meet some colourful market stall owners and learn what makes organic and local produce different. -Discover new spices like Zataar and Sumak at the spice shack. -Try a variety of Turkish snacks from Gozleme to the best Falafel in Berlin. -Taste Turkish coffee so strong one can almost stand a spoon in it upright. -Visit a Greek delicatessen to get the best olives in town. -Sample fried plantains, a cuisine from Ghana, Africa. -And finish with a sample of a classic German apple cake

So when I moved to Berlin over a year ago I was very excited to discover that the famed Maybachhufer Turkish Markets were on my new doorstep. I've been going every Tuesday and Friday ever since, each time getting to know the vendors and learning about the produce and spices.
Normally there's so much to eat at the markets but the portions are too big for one person to try everything. That's why…

The tour will take place outside at the famous Maybachhufer Turkish Market by the beautiful Landwehr Canal in Neukölln. The market is easy to find, just a 10 minute walk from with Kottbuser For or Hermannplatz. The tour is outside but most of the market stalls have awnings so you are somewhat protected from the rain or the sun.
