Do you love cheese? Have you ever wondered if you can make cheese in your own home? I'm going to show you that you can! Guests will assist with culturing and renneting of the milk, cutting and stirring the curds, draining the curds, filling the mold(s) and pressing. We will discuss equipment needed for basic cheesemaking, sanitation, and aging, as well as where you can find equipment and supplies. Guests will also receive some education and history of cheesemaking and a brief tour of my "caves" where the cheeses are aged.
All cheesemaking supplies/equipment are supplied.
I've been making artisan cheeses for 4 years. I specialize mostly in hard cheeses like cheddar, Gouda, Colby, Monterrey Jack, Gotchego, and several others. I work mostly with fresh raw goat milk from our small herd, but occasionally with raw cow milk as well. On average, I make 100 wheels of cheese a year, a far cry from industrial processes, but each wheel is made with love.

Cheesemaking will take place in the main house (kitchen) of Sturgeon Creek Farm. Classes will start about 10 am, and depending on the type of cheese being made, can last 3-6 hours. There is also our Sturgeon Creek Farm Airbnb up the street.

Dress comfortably for standing. Folks with long hair, please ensure it is tied back for sanitary reasons. If available, we will have cheese samples. There are no close restaurants for food.
