Чем вы займетесь

My experience consists of nature and history exploration at Pedra Branca State Park, located 50km away from Zona Sul and which is internationally known as IBA (Important Bird and Biodiversity Area). I visit this Park since 2003, it is three times the size of Tijuca National Park and it hosts the largest urban forest in the country. Most cariocas have never been here, I guarantee we will be off the beaten track. We will hike in a beautiful circuit part of the "Transcarioca" trails. Our final destination is the Quilombo Rock (735m) with a breathtaking view of the city and we will also enjoy a waterfall. We will pass by historic sites utilised by slaves that escaped at the end of XIX century. I will share my knowledge about the ecosystem and the history of the territory and the city since colonial times. By the end of the day you will have hiked approx. 18km in Atlantic Tropical rainforest. We meet at 7:00 8:00 arrival at the Park. We start the trail towards the Camorim reservoir. 4km hike (easy). 9:30 Camorim water reservoir 9:45 we continue towards the Quilombo Rock. 5km hike, moderate to difficult - last section assisted with a steel cable. Energy is needed. 12:00 Quilombo Rock 13:00 we start our return 15:00 Camorim waterfall 16:00 we leave the park and return to Botafogo

I am an environmental professional (economist and MSc Ecosystem Services) who loves being outdoors and taking friends (from Brazil and abroad) to more adventurous destinations in the city. I have also lived in Germany and Scotland and I speak four languages. Hiking and trekking are true passions to me and I am an experienced traveller to remote areas in Brazil, mostly in Conservation Units (e.g. Federal and State Parks). I will be more than happy to share my knowledge and enthusiasm about Rio's history and the territory where the Pedra Branca State Park lies, including its link with the slave period and the reasons to protect the largest urban forest in the country. “In the end we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand and we will understand only what we are taught.” (Baba Dioum)

Где вы побываете

I visit Pedra Branca State Park since 2003, it is the largest urban park in the country and also hosts the city's tallest peak (Pedra Branca peak at 1.025m). We will visit: - Camorim water reservoir - A section of the Transcarioca hiking trail - Quilombo Rock - Camorim waterfall - Historic sites and ruins on the way. Highlight to the church "Igreja São Gonçalo de Amarante" at Camorim, built in 1625, one of the oldest buildings in the city

Другие советы

Total hiking is long (18km) on mountainous terrain under the forest canopy. For those who feel comfortable walking at least six hours (3h30 + 2h30 return). No need to be an athlete/regular hiker but energy/strength is required to reach the summit (735m). I guarantee we will be off the beaten track.
