Normally, I meet with people at a centrally located, easy-to-find pub. I have drunk in all the pubs in Bath (to research the tour of course!) so I'll have something to say about wherever we are. It's fun facts rather than hard-boiled history. Less what you'll read in a book, more 'what someone's brother once told the landlord before this one & he told me!'. I call it 'history as seen through the bottom of a pint glass.' I'll introduce you to the ideas behind The Bath Pub Tour (Part Pub Quiz / Part Research Trip to find out why pubs are closing at an incredible rate across the country.) Then we'll set off. There are normally 8-10 stops outside on the street. The first 4 or 5 are in places where there is very little sign of the pub that once dominated the site - places that had you been there at the time you wouldn't have believed were going anywhere. Places that gave food & drinks & accommodation & inspiration to great thinkers & leaders & artists & pioneers & 100s of 1000s of ordinary Bathonians. We'll stop & have a proper drink somewhere. Somebody might win a Pickled Egg for a bonus question! Then we'll carry on touring: 4 or 5 more stops & finish in a pub!
There are bonus prizes for guessing answers to questions: salty peanuts, pork scratchings, salty crisps... & a pickled egg!
I'm a local. I've been drinking in local pubs since my 18th birthday - perhaps a fraction before! I'm 40 now & I have lots of first hand stories & experiences to share about the local culture, traditions, tales & characters. I have also done my hard-graft research: as well as reading all the books & talking to the experts, I systematically visited every pub in Bath to create this tour because I wanted to know 'what makes a great pub'! Why are some pubs closing & others opening!? How can we support this Great British Institution. I'm not sure I have all the answers... but I have some!

Где вы побываете
We'll start at Crystal Palace (after The Great Exhibition), head up Stall Street (once home to 12 pubs), along Cheap Street (Anglo Saxon for Market) to Temperance Fountain outside Bath Abbey. Into Couer De Lion (Bath's smallest pub) or a newish micro-pub (BeerCraft) for half of local ale, past Sam Wellers (haunted), Volunteer Riflemans Arms, (longest name), Saracen's Head (oldest) to end in 1 of my favourite pubs, the co-operatively owned, Bell.
