Having lived in the Yorkshire Dales for over 20 years, it's wonderful to be able to share some of the local history with visitors to this beautiful area. My mum, previously ran a hotel on the Isle of Skye, so has perfected the art of creating a delicious afternoon tea. You'll be meeting my mum and sister, who will be able to tell you about the long lost village and other incredible facts about the history of the Reservoir. You will also have permission to drive across the spectacular dam!! Which is very exciting and looks like a fairytale castle.

Где вы побываете

Scar House Reservoir is a one of a kind location, like something out of a fairytale. Nidderdale is known for its spectacular scenery, with views over Little and Great Whernside. There are numerous walking and cycling tracks. The 3 mile walk round the reservoir is well worth doing either prior or after your afternoon tea!

Lovely to meet Verity and her Mom who were very friendly and knowledgeable, they made us feel very welcome. The tea was wonderful and we had more than enough to eat even Maisie our dog was wasn't left out. The history about the building of the dam was very interesting and we enjoyed looking at the old photos. Although we didn't have time to explore and walk round the reservoir we will be back.

Although the ladies were friendly this whole experience was not good value for money. We did not see around the house, which was very run down. The Centre point - afternoon tea was in a very shabby room, was bought cold scones, a small bought cake and some sandwiches. Nothing ‘special’ at all. It was supposed to be 8 miles from where we were staying it was 40+. The talk was ok but nothing special all taken from a book. The map handed to us had no key. There was no information about local wildlife despite it being in the brief. In short it was not what we were expecting and not value for money. The best part - the drive to it which was nothing to do with the host. When we complained the host was not interested.

The drive was an experience since the main road was closed by an accident but cool drive regardless with beautiful views There was more food than we could eat but they offered us the leftovers Very nice people Great historical story on what the house was and how the reservoir was built Be sure to get directions as Google can send you astray Great value for the money A unique experience Donna

Might be OK if you're going hiking with a group of friends and are in the area. Definitely not for romantic escapes. The food is abundant and the people are nice but the place is not memorable.

Firstly, the afternoon tea was sumptuous and truly delicious! Sweetest strawberries and the scones are divine. The sandwiches are delicious, too. The history of the dam and Scar House was informative and the surrounding areas delightful to explore! A pretty way to spend a summer afternoon.

An amazing day out! We were hosted by Roxy's mother (Diane) and sister. Starting with a stunning scenic drive up, we drove across the reservoir before meeting them at their house. We we welcomed with what can only be described as a banquet of afternoon tea; for our family of 5, there was a mountain of freshly prepared scones, assorted sandwiches, tea and coffee and even a whole Victoria sponge cake. We were offered so much food, we couldn't even finish it! Once stuffed with food, we had a pleasant tour of the property as well as a short lecture on the history of the house, the reservoir and the surrounding area's history. Roxy's family were excellent hosts and it was a pleasure to learn about the local area over a delicious afternoon tea. The food alone is well worth the price. A must visit if you have an afternoon to spend in the Yorkshire Dales!
