Change your relationship with your phone

Smartphones have quickly centered themselves in our lives. We will carefully examine our relationship with our phones, becoming aware of what is beneficial about them, and what is harmful. With this new awareness we will have the opportunity to change how we relate to them so that they become a more useful tool, and less of an addictive distraction. We will re-configure our devices, we will explore changing our behaviors in using them, we will explore lifestyle changes, and we will look at the psychological needs they are fulfilling- in terms of our attention and needs for connection, and explore healthier ways of meeting those needs.

I've taught mindfulness in a variety of settings for 14 years, and founded Applied Mindfulness to explore bringing mindfulness into our day-to-day lives. I've facilitated well over 500 highly engaging experiential trainings. I've watched technology become embedded more and more deeply in our lives, and have been studying its effects on our relationship with ourselves, eachother, and the natural world for years. I'm passionate about helping people live with more vitality, meaning, and connection– and about putting technology in its proper place to support that, rather than get in the way.

Где вы побываете

We'll start at an indoor conference room where we can talk, show slides and videos and re-configure our phones. Then we'll walk two blocks to the San Francisco Botanical Gardens and re-convene in the Garden of Fragrance, where we'll practice mindfulness outdoors, and explore deeper needs our phones are fulfilling and how to meet them in different (healthier) ways.

Gabriel is warm, engaging, and highly educated on the practice of mindfulness and the smartphone's prominence in our lives. The co-working space he hosts in is beautifully designed, and the botanical gardens he takes you to for the second part is incredible to experience on a sunny day. I learned a few new tricks on how to set up my phone to serve me and had a really relaxing start to my day. I would highly recommend this to travelers and locals alike looking to slow down a little. Pro tip: this area has tons of great small restaurants and boutique shopping if you have time to linger afterward.

This experience was really helpful for me. I often feel like my phone controls me, rather than me controlling my phone. Gabriel shared a lot of useful insights to help "free myself from my phone". He was very attentive and focused on the specific phone problem I have, which is that I waste ~30 minutes every morning on my phone. He helped create a custom game plan so I can start my mornings with exercise, meditation, and reading, rather than scrolling mindlessly through social media. After a week of implementing his advice I've already gotten more productive in my mornings. This experience was well worth the cost! Thank you Gabriel!

Bring your smartphone! Maybe someplace to take notes. Wear comfortable shoes that you can walk in on unpaved surfaces (grass), bring water, sunscreen, and anything else you need for being outdoors.
